Press Release – June 10, 2009
The Environmental Operators Certification Program recently held its Annual General Meeting at the University of British Columbia, Wednesday, May 27, 2009. For many years, a large number of Operators have been known to be in Vancouver attending a large training opportunity that occurs each year, usually in the month of May. It has become traditional to hold the AGM at some point during the week of the training session. The normal reports were read and accepted by the membership with no contentious issues raised.
It had been decided that proposed revisions to the Constitution would be voted on by the membership at large by mail-in ballot to allow the maximum number of members to vote – not just those who might attend the AGM. Normally the election of half the members of the Board occurs (by mailed ballot) at this time also and it was decided to combine the two votes on the same ballot.
Due to an error in the initial, mail-out list of ballots, discovered only one week prior to the deadline for their return, an extension of the deadline by seventeen (17) days was decided upon and ballots were sent to those missed the first time.
The Constitution amendments were overwhelmingly approved; 104 members voted in favour and only 22 members voted against.
In the election of two Operator members to the Board for a two year term, the vote totals were as follows:
Therefore, Mike Gosselin and Brian Thorburn are elected for a two year term.
Unfortunately twenty-six ballots were received that were not in compliance with the instructions and were not counted. In twenty-four instances there was no, or too little, information on the return envelope to identify that it was from an eligible voter. In one instance, two ballots were received in the same envelope.
